Sardinia, from the ancient nuraghi to the secrets of the blue zone: Journey through the history, traditions and legends of Sardinia.

The famous singer-songwriter Fabrizio De Andrè said "Life in Sardinia is perhaps the best that a man can hope for: 24,000 km of forests, countryside and coasts immersed in a miraculous sea is what I would advise the good Lord to give us as a paradise".

Course organisation: 

The course includes 4 hours of general Italian in the mornings + 1 hour on Sardinian culture in the afternoons.

Course objective:

This course aims to increase your knowledge of Sardinian culture, talking about the beauties and curiosities, the customs and traditions of this fascinating and ancient island.

The course analyses:

  • Nuragic Sardinia: ancient remains of settlements that date back to prehistory: nuraghi, domus de janas, dolmens and menirs and their function.

  • Festivals and traditions: festivals and celebrations such as Sant'Efisio in Cagliari, the Sardinian Cavalcata in Sassari, the Sartiglia in Oristano, craftsmanship and food and wine as cultural aspects of this land.

  • Myths and legends: Sardinia is full of legends and mythological figures such as the Janas, the fairies who dispense treasures, the mischievous elves, the dark figures such as Sa female Accabadora, S'Ammutadori and Sa Filonzana

  • The blue zones: Ogliastra, a region in the central-eastern area of ​​Sardinia, is one of the 5 blue zones in the world. What is the secret of its inhabitants who reach the age of 100, still working and enjoying life? Let's find out together!

Final project:

The teacher will propose intercultural exchange activities, encouraging students to make their own presentation on the history, customs and traditions of their land of origin.
