CILS Italian language Exams

One World is an authorised centre for the CILS exams (Certification of Italian as a Foreign Language).

With One World you can:

1. What is CILS?

The CILS certification is a recognised qualification which certifies your level of knowledge of Italian as a foreign language.
It was designed by the Research Centre of the "University for Foreigners" of Siena and follows the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for languages, from A1 (basic user) to C2 level (proficient user).

2. What is CILS for?

The CILS certification is important for various reasons. It is useful for study, because it allows you to attend Italian schools and universities and also for business reasons as it proves you have an adequate level to be able to work in Italy.

3. Is there a CILS exam if you are applying for Italian Citizenship?

To be able to get Italian citizenship you have to have a certified level of Italian of at least B1 (intermediate). So a B1, B2, C1 or C2 CILS certificate is accepted. You can also do the B1 Citizenship exam which has been created specifically for those applying for citizenship.

4. Is there a CILS exam if you are applying for a resident permit (permesso di soggiorno)?

To be able to get a resident permit you have to have a certified level of Italian of at least A2 (Pre-intermediate). So an A2, B1, B2, C1 or C2 CILS certificate is accepted. You can also do the A2 Integration exam which has been created specifically for those applying for a resident permit.

5. When can you take the CILS exams?
